Shane McDermott RVN is the manager and principal nurse at Animal Hospital Kilcoole
Hello, I’m Shane.
Coming from a farming background, having my own dogs and working in a pet shop as a teenager, I have always been involved with animals and started vet nursing in 2000 in a mixed practice in Co. Mayo.
Two years later I moved to England to pursue a career in small animal practice and I qualified from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2003.
In 2004 I returned to Ireland and worked in various small animal practices in the Dublin area, including an emergency clinic, until establishing Animal Hospital Kilcoole with Gail in 2009.
My greatest professional interests are the care and husbandry of exotic species and pet behaviour and canine training. To this end I am completing a degree in canine behaviour and training, to complement previous courses, as well as participating in continuous professional development in all aspects of veterinary care.
I offer behavioural consultations for a wide range of problems and also a home visit training dog training service.
I have two dogs at home, Delphi and Carly, as well as two bearded dragons and fish, who live at the practice.
